MAC = Jobs replaced by automation × Wage × K × Axion market share
Annual MAC at different Axion market shares
What public data can and can't show
Sales in place of value added. Value added (sales − purchases from suppliers) is not published, so sales are used for both years. That gives the same answer as long as purchases are a steady share of sales. Under Axion's rules the company's own disclosure would supply value added. Median pay in place of average pay. Average pay per employee is not published; median pay from the CEO pay ratio disclosure is. Averages are usually higher than medians, so these MACs are likely on the low side. Worldwide, not national. The reports give worldwide sales and employees. Axion would use US figures only, since foreign operations aren't charged. Microsoft, for example, has 125,000 of its 228,000 employees in the US. Rounded headcounts. Walmart reports "approximately 2.1 million" associates in both years, so its result is very sensitive to rounding. Fiscal years. Walmart's and Microsoft's fiscal years end in January and June; the nearest two-year span is used. Inflation is the 2023 to 2025 change in the annual average consumer price index.
